Asito won the Diversity in Business2018 Award in the large company category. This photo, which reflects well the diversity in the company, was taken by Sacha de Boer.

Cleaning company Asito has gained a lot of experience in recent years in placing people with vulnerable positions in the labor market. Asito does this through job creation. In job creation, the business process distinguishes the complex tasks from the less complex tasks. To do this, functions and work processes in the company are being scrutinized and redesigned. This is done by analyzing work processes, breaking down relatively simple tasks and combining these tasks into new sustainable jobs. Thus, qualified personnel do the work for which they are trained, and basic tasks are performed by people distant from the labor market. To this end, the work processes taking place in the company must continue to run smoothly or even be optimized.

Asito shares three crucial factors they defined while working with job creation:

  1. Looking at the tasks the employee will perform.

Asito thinks less and less in terms of functions and profiles, and more and more in terms of tasks to be performed; how can tasks be shifted, if necessary? This allows incumbents to maximize their talents and a new employee to perform their own tasks. Finding a good balance in this will keep the support for this approach in the organization high, as everyone does work what suits them.

  1. Looking at the environment.

Working in a station concourse with busy travelers requires a very different approach than working in a quiet office environment. If you create a position for someone with a vulnerable position in the labor market, you must make sure that this person can perform his or her job well in the environment where they are placed.

  1. Looking at the qualities of the manager.

To provide proper guidance, the supervisor’s experience is identified. Then they look at whether the job created is suitable for someone with a vulnerable position in the labor market. If that is the case, then targeted recruitment is done for someone from that target group. This method of job creation has been very successful for Asito.
