“We are happy to join ADI because we want to make strides. We score well on quite a few aspects of diversity, but we are lagging behind on ethnic-cultural diversity, and that is actually true for the entire book trade. We want to change that and we want to lead the way. That is why we are happy with ADI.”

Founded fifty-five years ago, Athenaeum Bookshop stands out for its independence and idiosyncrasy, wide and carefully curated range and for the expertise of its booksellers. They also play an active role in the book world by organising book presentations, signing sessions, podcasts and as many other activities around books, magazines and writers as possible. Besides the bookshop on the Spui, you can find Athenaeum Bookshop in Haarlem, at the Rijksmuseum and online. The renowned Amsterdam bookshops Het Martyrium and Van Rossum are also Athenaeum bookshops. A total of about 60 people work at Athenaeum.
