20 years ago, on 1 April 2001, the first rainbow wedding was held in Amsterdam. That news went around the world. Amsterdam showed that day that it is a city where people can be themselves. On 1 April 2021, the city paid extensive attention to this anniversary. The rainbow flag flew everywhere in the city, the outdoor exhibition Legale Liefde (Legal Love) was opened at City Hall and a beautiful wedding cake sailed through the canals.
